About David
David Byrne joined Beasley Allen in 2001. He handles claims against pharmaceutical and medical device companies and is currently working on federal litigation related to defective hip replacement devices and talcum powder class actions, and state court cases involving Kratom and contaminated baby food products.
David is dedicated to safeguarding clients from harmful consumer and pharmaceutical products. His commitment to justice is reflected in his AV Rating from Martindale Hubbell and his consistent inclusion in the Midsouth Super Lawyers list since 2017. Recognized in Best Lawyers in America since 2012 and the Best Lawyers Consumer Guide since 2001, David’s expertise and dedication were further acknowledged when he was named the “Best Lawyers in America Corporate Lawyer of the Year” for Montgomery in 2020.
Since joining the firm, David has been involved in significant litigation, including hormone replacement therapy, transvaginal mesh, hip replacements, Xarelto, and baby food contamination. Previously, he handled complex environmental cases across the U.S., representing states, counties, and municipalities, as well as individual property owners. David has served as co-lead counsel in major class actions, such as the $200 million settlement for hormone replacement therapy in California and the Johnson & Johnson sunscreen MDL. He has also contributed to high-profile cases like the BP oil spill, the TVA coal ash spill, and New Jersey PFOA drinking water contamination cases. His efforts have led to substantial settlements and verdicts, including a $700 million PCB contamination settlement in Anniston, Alabama. David’s work spans various areas, securing multi-million-dollar outcomes for clients in numerous legal disputes.
He is a highly respected legal professional with a wealth of experience and leadership roles. David currently chairs the Alabama State Bar’s Federal Court Practice Section and serves as president of the Middle District of Alabama Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He has also led the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association and is actively involved with the Alabama Association for Justice and the Justice Hugh Maddox American Inn of Court. His dedication to the legal field is further highlighted by his appointment as chair of the Alabama Bar’s Federal Court Task Force in 2009.
David credits his father with inspiring his legal career. As a child, he admired his father’s passionate advocacy and the genuine love and respect his clients had for him. Outside of his legal work, David enjoys hunting and fishing. He cherishes time spent outdoors in God’s creation, especially with his children.
Education
David earned his undergraduate degree from The Citadel in 1989 and his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law in 1992.
Following graduation, he served as a Deputy Alabama Attorney General and worked as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Robert Varner and Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Judge John M. Patterson.
