Dee Miles has been a cornerstone of Beasley Allen Law Firm since 1991, pioneering consumer fraud and commercial litigation across the nation. His exceptional leadership has led to numerous record-setting verdicts for clients in various legal areas. Beyond his courtroom successes, Dee oversees the firm’s Consumer Fraud and Commercial Litigation Section, ensuring his knowledge and dedication touch every case.
Dee attributes his success to his faith and is highly esteemed in the legal community. He holds numerous accolades, including a Martindale Hubbell AV rating and recognition in the “Who’s Who” category of lawyers by the Heritage Registry. Dee is among the top 500 plaintiff consumer lawyers in the nation, according to Lawdragon, and has been consistently listed in Best Lawyers in America. His excellence has earned him spots in Alabama Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers for multiple years, including a cover feature in Super Lawyers magazine in 2013. He was also honored as “Litigator of the Year” by his peers at Beasley Allen and named a “Top Rated Lawyer in Commercial Litigation” by Martindale Hubbell and American Lawyer Media.
He is a highly accomplished leader in complex national litigation, often appointed by federal judges to coordinate major cases. Dee has played pivotal roles in securing significant settlements, recently including a record-breaking $2.8 billion settlement in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Antitrust case, the largest in U.S. healthcare history. Dee also recently achieved a $287 million class settlement with Toyota over defective fuel pumps, and he is currently pursuing the same class claims against Honda, Subaru and Mazda. In the insurance area, Dee recently obtained a $38 million settlement for Banner Life Insurance policyholders and a $28 million settlement with US Financial Life Insurance Company for improper insurance charges. His experience spans various high-profile cases, such as the VW “Clean Diesel” MDL, and the FCA “Clean Diesel” MDL, the Toyota “Sudden Unintended Acceleration MDL” and the Home Depot and Target Data Breach MDLs, demonstrating his ability to tackle diverse and complex legal challenges.
In addition to his work in MDLs, Dee has represented state attorneys general in major litigations, recovering over $1.5 billion for state Medicaid agencies. He has also achieved multimillion-dollar verdicts in numerous cases, such as a $215 million verdict for Alabama against AstraZeneca. Dee’s dedication to justice is further highlighted by his involvement in whistleblower litigation, where he recently helped secure a $30 million settlement for allegations against US Investigations Services Inc. His leadership in consumer fraud and commercial litigation is unparalleled, making him a formidable force in the legal field.
He is a dedicated member of the legal community, serving on the Executive Committee for the Alabama Association for Justice and as a past president of the Montgomery Trial Lawyers Association. Dee actively participates in the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice and has been on the Advisory Board of Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law since 2006, where he also served as president. Additionally, he has been a member of the Product Liability Editorial Advisory Board for Law360 since 2018.
Dee, originally from Homewood, Alabama, met his high school sweetheart, Sandra Turnblad, at Homewood High School in a journalism class. After college, they were married and have a lively family of four children and now three grandchildren. The family is deeply rooted in their community and are active members of The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Montgomery. Dee and Sandra’s strong faith was honored when they were inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, recognizing their efforts to promote Christianity in the Middle East and protect holy sites. Dee’s recent promotion to Knight Grand Cross in this organization highlights his ongoing dedication to his faith. Outside of his professional life, Dee is a passionate volunteer. He dedicates time to Montgomery Catholic Schools and Montgomery County YMCA, has coached various sports teams, and raises funds for several charitable organizations, including Montgomery Catholic Preparatory Schools, Little Sisters of the Poor, and Catholic Social Services.
Education
After earning his degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dee kicked off his career as a corporate internal auditor at Amsouth Bancorporation (now Regions Bank). His journey then took an exciting turn when he entered Cumberland School of Law and was selected to study Comparative International Law at the prestigious University of Heidelberg in Germany.
Following law school, Dee gained invaluable experience clerking for Judge John M. Patterson at the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. His impressive work led to a role as a staff attorney for the Alabama Supreme Court under Justice Henry Steagall. Dee’s early career is a testament to his dedication and passion for the legal field, setting the stage for his future successes.
