About James
James is a lawyer in the Consumer Fraud Section and is handling cases involving bank fraud, insurance fraud, and violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Background
Prior to joining the firm, James worked as an Associate Counsel and Assistant Attorney General at the Alabama Securities Commission where his work included prosecuting criminal cases in all state and federal courts across the state, filing civil and administrative actions and advising the Commission on current legal issues. James was appointed as Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) in the Northern District of Alabama to prosecute a case in U.S. District Court involving securities fraud, wire fraud, and mail fraud.
These complex securities fraud cases often involved multi-million-dollar schemes perpetrated against investors. During his time at the Commission, James was a member of Money Transmitter Regulators Association and North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA). James also served as an instructor for NASAA’s Advanced Litigation Training in Newport Beach, California, in 2015.
James also worked as a senior Deputy District Attorney in the Montgomery County, Alabama, District Attorney’s office where he carried an average caseload of 300-400 criminal cases and participated in over 30 criminal jury trials and 20 criminal and civil bench trials. He handled felony cases from indictment through post-trial proceedings in Circuit Court as well as preliminary hearings in District Court and was the Supervising Attorney over the Civil Asset Forfeiture Division.
Professional Associations
James is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association (MCBA) where he serves with the organization’s Volunteer Lawyers Program. Previously, James served on the Board of Directors for the MCBA and the MCBA’s Young Lawyers’ Section.

Education
The University of Alabama School of Law graduate was a member of the Civil Rights Students’ Association, Criminal Law Association, and a volunteer with the Tuscaloosa County Probate Court and Habitat for Humanity. He also externed with Tuscaloosa District Attorney’s Office.
James earned his undergraduate degree in History at the University of Alabama where he was honored twice on the Dean’s List and once on the President’s List. He was also a recipient of the Hugh Kaul Foundation Scholarship and the Alabama Power Scholarship.
Following law school graduation, James served as Law Clerk for the Honorable Charles N. Price, Montgomery, Alabama, Circuit Judge.
Community Involvement
James is involved in a number of community organizations including the Coosa Riverkeeper Advisory Council, National Wild Turkey Federation (Elmore County Chapter) and served as a volunteer soccer coach for American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). He also served as Director of the Montgomery Law Explorers.
The Mountain Brook, Alabama, native now resides in Pike Road, Alabama, with his wife, Laura, and their two children, Sara and Thomas. They are members of St. James United Methodist Church, where he teaches Sunday School and Laura serves on the Board of Trustees. He previously coached in St. James’ Upward Soccer program.
