Toxic Exposure Lawyer Rhon Jones

About Rhon

Rhon Jones began his career at Beasley Allen in 1994. Today, he heads the firm’s Toxic Torts Section and is recognized as one of the nation’s leading environmental attorneys for plaintiffs.

Rhon is a champion for the underdog, dedicated to helping those who have been wronged. He knows that life is tough for hardworking people and being taken advantage of or injured can be devastating. His commitment to justice has earned him top honors, including an AV Rating from Martindale Hubbell and recognition as one of the LawDragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers and one of the LawDragon Green 500 Leaders in Environmental Law. He’s also consistently named to Alabama’s Midsouth Super Lawyers, was honored as the 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Environmental Litigation in Montgomery, and is a two-time recipient of Beasley Allen’s Litigator of the Year Award.

A true titan in environmental law, Rhon has secured over $30 billion in total recoveries for his clients. Among his notable achievements, he played a key role in the BP Oil Spill litigation, helping to secure over $10 billion in economic settlements and $18.5 billion in federal, state, and local government claims. Currently, he is representing Alabama and Georgia in seeking justice for those affected by the opioid crisis. Rhon also secured a $27.8 million settlement for damages caused by a massive coal ash spill in Tennessee and obtained a $700 million settlement for PCB contamination victims in Alabama, the largest environmental settlement at the time. Additionally, he resolved a class action against a large industrial company in Alabama for groundwater contamination, achieved over $20 million in verdicts and settlements for carbon black pollution in Alabama and Oklahoma, and successfully resolved a class action regarding contaminated drinking water in New Jersey.

He is deeply involved in both national and state-level organizations. Rhon is a former president of the Montgomery County Bar Association and has been honored with a Certificate of Recognition from the Alabama State Bar for his nomination for the Pro Bono Award. Rhon is highly active in the American Association for Justice, where he has chaired or co-chaired multiple litigation groups and currently serves as an officer of the Section on Toxic, Environmental, and Pharmaceutical Torts. He is also a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, and the Federal Bar Association. Additionally, Rhon has shared his experience as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law and Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.

Rhon feels blessed to have a wonderful wife and children and is grateful to now spend more time with his oldest son, who recently joined him at Beasley Allen as a lawyer.  He has served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Montgomery, taught Sunday school for 20 years, formerly facilitated a men’s Bible study, and has participated in multiple mission trips to India. Rhon is passionate about the arts and helping those in need. He has served on the boards of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts. He is also an Advisory Board Member and a strong supporter of the Family Sunshine Center, which works to prevent domestic abuse.

Education

Rhon earned his B.A. from Auburn University and his J.D. from the University of Alabama. He started his career as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Robert Varner, then moved on to trial practice in Birmingham before joining Beasley Allen.
