Ted Meadows

Ted Meadows joined Beasley Allen in 2001 and has since secured over $1.4 billion in verdicts and settlements. He is a key leader of talc litigation nationally, driving significant legal victories and industry changes.

Ted has been widely recognized for his outstanding work in litigation, particularly in talcum powder and hormone replacement therapy cases. He was nominated for Public Justice’s “Trial Lawyer of the Year” Award in 2012, 2016 (finalist), and 2017, with his verdicts frequently listed among the National Law Journal’s Top 100 Verdicts. Ted has received multiple awards, including Beasley Allen Mass Torts Lawyer of the Year (twice) and Litigator of the Year (twice), and has been featured in the Midsouth Super Lawyer, Lawdragon 500, and The Best Lawyers In America lists. His team was honored as the Top Trial Team of the Year by The National Trial Lawyers Association and was among Law360’s Product Liability Groups of the Year. Ted is also recognized by the Alabama State Bar and the National College of Advocacy for his contributions to legal education and advocacy.

His early work in talcum powder litigation helped Beasley Allen become co-lead counsel in the national litigation and paved the way for other firms to win big verdicts for ovarian cancer victims. Ted has tirelessly fought for compensation for his clients and pushed for safety changes in the cosmetic industry. He has led efforts to testify before Congress and the FDA, which contributed to Johnson & Johnson stopping the sale of talc-based Baby Powder in the U.S. and Canada in 2020 and worldwide in 2022. 

Ted has achieved several landmark victories against Johnson & Johnson, proving their talcum powder products caused ovarian cancer. His notable victories include verdicts of $72 million, $55 million, and $70 million in 2016, followed by even larger verdicts of $110.4 million and $417 million in 2017. These successes raised public awareness and led other companies to add cancer warnings to their products. Ted has also been instrumental in other significant litigations, such as Lotronex and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). In December 2011, he co-led a trial where a Philadelphia jury awarded $72.6 million to three plaintiffs who developed breast cancer from HRT drugs.

He has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations throughout his career. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, participating in the Section on Toxic, Environmental & Pharmaceutical Torts (S.T.E.P.) and the Product Liability Section. Ted has also co-chaired several litigation support groups within the American Association for Justice, including those for talcum powder, Meridia and Pain Pumps. 

Ted is married to Carla Musgrove from Eufaula, Alabama. They have two grown children, Nathan and Amanda, and a grandson named Jaxton. Ted and Carla are active members of the River Region United Way Tocqueville Society, which works to improve lives and create opportunities for everyone. They also support various charitable efforts through their church and other organizations locally and worldwide.

Education

Ted earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Cumberland School of Law in 1991. Before that, he completed his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Corporate Finance at the University of Alabama in 1988.
