Tom Methvin

Tom Methvin is the Managing Attorney at Beasley Allen Law Firm. He started with the Firm in 1988. Since 1998, he has led the firm to become a national powerhouse in providing legal services and representation to victims of wrongdoing. Born in Eufaula, Alabama, in 1963, Tom has always had a heart for those in need, inspired by his father’s belief in protecting the vulnerable.

Tom began his legal career at Beasley Allen, representing victims of consumer fraud, many of whom were illiterate or uneducated. His dedication to justice has been a driving force throughout his career. Under his leadership, Beasley Allen has secured billions in verdicts and settlements for clients. Tom’s innovative approach of organizing the firm into sections based on case type has allowed the lawyers to concentrate on specific areas while also being on the cutting edge in their legal fields. This was not an organizational practice done at that time.

Tom has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Harold Albritton Pro Bono Leadership Award in 2014, which honors individuals who have enhanced the human dignity of others by improving pro bono services to the state’s poor and disadvantaged. He has also been featured in the Alabama State Bar’s “30 Faces of Pro Bono” series, recognizing his significant contributions to expanding access to justice.

Tom has been involved in numerous high-profile cases throughout his career. He was the lead attorney in Carlisle v. Whirlpool, which resulted in a $581 million judgment in Hale County, Alabama. This was the largest predatory lending verdict in American history. He served as co-counsel in Johnson v. Mercury Finance Company, which resulted in a $45 million jury verdict. Tom was also involved in Davis v. Associates, which resulted in a $35 million jury verdict, and played a key role in Gallant v. Prudential, which resulted in a $25 million jury verdict. Overall, Tom has been involved in over 50 cases that have resulted in settlements or verdicts in excess of $1 million. His work has made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals and has helped to hold large corporations accountable for their actions.

Tom’s commitment to justice is evident in his extensive pro bono work and his efforts to increase access to legal services for those in need. As president of the Alabama State Bar from 2009 to 2010, he focused on Access to Justice and increasing pro bono services. Tom’s dedication to helping those who cannot afford legal representation has been a cornerstone of his career.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom is a dedicated family man. He met his wife, Amy, while he was in law school at Cumberland. They have two sons, Rucker and Slade.
