Tackling Toxic Exposure
Exposure to toxic substances can cause serious, longterm health problems. These harmful chemicals may be found in the air, water, soil, food, or workplace, and exposure can happen through breathing, swallowing, or skin contact. Some health effects appear quickly, while others develop over time and may include cancer, lung disease, neurological disorders, and other chronic conditions.
At Beasley Allen, our attorneys represent people, families, and communities harmed by toxic exposure and environmental pollution. We understand how damaging these cases can be—physically, emotionally, and financially. From small towns to entire regions, we work to hold negligent companies accountable and help those affected pursue justice and protection for the future.
Why Toxic Exposure Cases Are Complex
Toxic exposure claims often involve powerful corporations, government agencies, and scientific evidence. Proving where exposure occurred—and who is responsible—requires experience, resources, and access to experts.
These cases may involve:
- Environmental testing and longterm data
- Medical records and expert analysis
- Corporate knowledge of risks
- Regulatory failures or ignored warnings
Beasley Allen has the experience needed to handle large-scale, high-impact toxic exposure litigation and help victims pursue accountability.
Environmental Exposure
Environmental exposure cases often involve industrial pollution or largescale disasters that release toxic substances into the environment.
Examples include:
- Camp Lejeune – Thousands of people who lived or worked at Camp Lejeune were exposed to contaminated drinking water between 1953 and 1987. In 2022, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act gave those affected a new legal path to seek compensation from the federal government.
- BP Oil Spill (2010) – In April 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, causing the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Millions of barrels of oil were released, harming workers, coastal communities, wildlife, and natural resources across the region.
- Coal Ash Spill (2008) – A containment failure at the TVA Kingston Fossil Plant in Tennessee released toxic coal ash across more than 300 acres and into nearby waterways. Cleanup took nearly a decade and cost more than $1 billion, with lasting health and environmental effects.
These types of environmental contamination can impact drinking water, soil, air quality, and public health for years.
Occupational Exposure
Some jobs expose workers to dangerous substances every day. Occupational toxic exposure may occur through breathing, skin contact, or ingestion, and serious illness may not develop until years later.
One example is Paraquat, a highly toxic herbicide commonly sold as Gramoxone. Even small amounts can be deadly, and there is no antidote.
- The EPA has warned that skin contact or inhalation may increase the risk of Parkinson’s disease
- Paraquat is banned in more than 60 countries
- Lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers for failing to warn users of known risks
Beasley Allen continues to investigate Paraquat exposure claims nationwide.

Water Contamination

Clean water is essential to public health, yet water contamination remains a serious issue across the United States. Toxic substances can enter water supplies through industrial dumping, firefighting foam, landfills, or aging infrastructure.
Common water contamination cases we handle include:
- PFAS (“forever chemicals”) water contamination
- Groundwater contamination
- Microplastics in drinking water
Water contamination can affect homes, schools, military bases, and entire communities—often without warning.
